I couldn't resist, and I logged in for the first time in probably a decade to see my "virtual gift". It's the same "20" jpeg that's in the email.
Shit, at least it's not an NFT. Yet.
I think LiveJournal was the last time social media was a net positive. It was both hyperlocal and worldwide.
I'd say Facebook ruined everything but I blame the iPhone.
The ability to easily flick between sharing with everyone and sharing with your friends was the critical feature that we’ve thrown out for”engagement”.
Facebook did (does?) have that feature, but it was certainly not as easy to use as LJ.
