RIP Richard H. Kirk

RIP Richard H. Kirk of Cabaret Voltaire, possibly my favorite band of all time. Mute's statement, and Mallinder's.

Please enjoy some excellent music videos spanning several decades:

And here are the complete Doublevision and Gasoline In Your Eye VHS albums:

Bonus material: Billie Ray Martin's excellent cover of Crackdown:

Previously, previously.

    Aw, man. :(

I discovered Cabaret Voltaire by accident while looking around for an Aurelio Voltaire album for my then-girlfriend, about fifteen years ago. I ended up with Micro-Phonies and was totally floored by the sampling, the thin synth sounds, the deliberately non-mechanical drumming. In my head, it's what the people who weren't flying above the city listening to Vangelis were listening to in Blade Runner.

Just a few months ago I saw a brand new record from them at the store, Shadow of Fear, and bought it without a second thought and quite liked it too. And I guess that's the last one I get to buy...

    Rest in peace, Kirk.

Sad news of the week for sure. I'm grateful I saw CV perform live at Tresor in 2014 when I was in Berlin for a few months.

I put on Ferris Bueller's Day Off on Netflix the day I read the news just to see the Cabaret Voltaire poster in Ferris' room, didn't bother to finish the film.

Getting old has its drawbacks, at least we have some fonder memories?
