I saw it on release in the cinema, and really couldn't get into it. Skip ahead 9 or so years and I picked it up on bluray to watch with the kids. On first re-watch I enjoyed it, they loved it. After subsequent viewings I really like it. Similar to Cloverfield for me I found it a better film when watched on home media vs IMAX.
If interested you should be able to pick up Speed Racer on bluray for a few USD, while you could download it the quality of the rips available do a disservice to the visual lunacy of the film.
I just remember a lot of primary colors, no depth of field, and like... ten hours of exposition on the economics of mobster-run NASCAR instead of driving and punching and monkeys? Was there a title crawl about some Jedi being sent in to shake down one of Apple's slave-labor Chinese factories? I may have dozed off.

Two DJs walk into a bar. One says to the other, hey, want to go see a movie? The other says, "I dunno, who's the projectionist?"

My wife wanted to walk out of it, but I really liked it.
