The War on Halloween

"The ordinance now enacts a maximum trick-or-treating age of 14 years old and does not allow for possible jail time."

The section headings in the Chesapeake Code are golden. It seems like a really nice place.

  • 46-6. Curfew -- Dismal Swamp.
  • 46-8. Trick or treat activities.
  • 46-9. Going on movable drawbridge span after warning.
  • 46-10. Electric fences.
  • 46-11. Possession and disposal of hypodermic syringes or needles.
  • 46-16. Reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions on freedom of expression on the grounds of public buildings and parks.
  • 46-17. Receiving stolen goods.
  • 46-18. Toxic vapors -- Inhaling.
  • 46-27. Reimbursement of expenses incurred in the clean-up, removal and repair of affected properties associated with a methamphetamine lab.

    Because Halloween is technically a pagan festival, couldn't one claim it's a religious act?

    I like 46-23:

    Any person 18 years of age or older, including the parent of any child, who: ...
    (2) Engages in consensual sexual intercourse with a child 15 years or older not his or her spouse, child or grandchild;
    shall be guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor.

    So I guess sex with your 15 year old grandchild is okay? Good to know.

      You see, if you're not related you're a pedophile, but if you are related it's incest which is treated more gently in many, many jurisdictions. (This is something various groups have been trying to fix.)
