I'm honoured seeing my project featured here! If there are any questions just ask and I’ll try to answer (you can also reach me on Twitter: @noniq). Keep on hacking!

    • Are the stoppers really necessary? If the magnets are adequately strong, shouldn't everything just pop into the correct angle once they are brought close together?

Very tempted to make one of these myself...I would probably use a 2-ply design with a much thinner face board, and a thicker, inset backing board on each face so the exterior joints can be made smaller. That would significantly complicate the hinge design, though. Also, some offset fabric tabs that stick out on one of the seams should make unfolding easier. Unfortunately this will require a rather un-Dimaxion-ly subjective decision on which ocean to interrupt with the tabs...

Any plans on making longer videos? Every one is a bite sized offering for someone who's been starving for the past year.

One of the things I'd love to see -- in either this physical project or in my dymaxion screen saver -- is the ability to unfold along non-canonical paths.

For the physical version, I wonder if there's some design possible that makes it so that when two of the edges are detached, the third edge becomes locked in place, or some other way to make it difficult to end up with a pile of triangles on the floor.

I frankly don’t know because I didn’t make a version without stoppers :-) Just try it out.

Initially I also thought about milling or grinding the pieces’ sides to the correct angle (138°/2), so that the folded globe has no gaps. Then the sides themselves would work as stoppers. However, I then realized that for this to work correctly the gaffer tape hinges needed to be on the outside :-(
