Do any of you work at Instagram?

The "dnalounge" Instagram account was created by one of my employees years ago, but none of us can remember who that was, or what email address they used.

I jumped through the hoops here, including sending them a scan of a utility bill and whatnot. The first time they flat-out ignored me. The second time they wrote back, but after three go-rounds with the support drone, they basically told me, "if you don't know the email address, go fuck yourself."

So who can reset this damned account?

Update: Got it restored, thanks! (It only took the assistance of three Instagram insiders, one of whom is a director.)

I'll ask for someone a step up to look into this for you.

Got the same thing from twitter, it's a common sentiment these days

Got this from Skype recently, after I realised that they'd "inactivated" my credit. Christ, the bloody app is connecting just fine, why the fuck do I have to go through a website and recall my password which I haven't typed into anything since I changed machines and ISP over a year ago just to get my credit back, which shouldn't have gone anywhere in the first place?

    Queue "dnalounge2" in 3, 2, 1...

    It's secure. Like an iPhone.

Maybe you should ask the FBI for help.

and in life, how you treat "support drones" says much about you.

I guess how quickly sniping, unhelpful blog commenters make it into my killfile says a lot about me, too.

Do your employees have email addresses on domains that you control, like @dnalounge.com? Maybe you have them send a password reset email and you could find the specific username in the server logs.

File a C&D for unauthorized use of trademark?

  8. Jeff Bell says:

You could upgrade the request to "Someone Is Stealing my Account"

In practice, I expect that most stolen-account complaints are really forgot-which-email incidents anyways.
