It seemed a heart-warming sight: two seals apparently frolicking in the sea before slipping below the waves. Then an ominous sheet of red unfurled across the waves. When the pair resurfaced, the bigger seal was skinning and eating its companion.
"We thought they were playing," says marine biologist Sebastian Fuhrmann. "It looked really cute, but in just a few seconds, it was over."
Eaten by seals.

I don't know whether to be pleased that the article is contradicting the widespread misperception of "animal is cute == animal is harmless", or exasperated that it needs to do so in the first place.
"This marine carnivore is actually a marine carnivore! We find this surprising, because d'aww. Look how cute. Clearly, this animal's large eyes and bulging cranium  mean it wouldn't hurt a fly."
"Nature, red in tooth and claw" indeed.
