Tonga

I love the aesthetic and history of this place, but holy crap are the drinks terrible.

Also, not to slut-shame or anything but I think this tiki god spends a lot of time on its knees.

I'm just pleased it hasn't been turned into a basement yoga room.

  8. At first I thought you were critiquing an entire island nation, but then I saw the SF tag.

The food and drinks were terrible there when that was my go-to date spot, back in the late 80's, early 90's!

The drinks aren't great, but they're a damn sight better than the food... (still love the Tonga Room though.)

truth: i don't think i've ever had a tiki drink that i would classify as "good". drinkable yes, but, "yum, that's a damn fine cocktail." not so much. if i have had one that i enjoyed, the memory of it was lost in the ether of the sugar drunks.

The Tiki drinks at Smuggler's cove or Forbidden Island are far superior to the slop at Tonga. At least at SC I've said "yes, that's a damn fine cocktail" so many times...

i've definitely had drinks at Smuggler's Cove and Forbidden Island. i can say for certain that i never had anything in either place that i would classify as slop, but nothing memorable either. it's been years though, i'll have to go back.

Oh, I was only calling Tonga's drinks slop. Although, I've been able to send drinks back at Tonga for better ones, so I suppose it depends how demanding you'd like to be.

gotcha, i knew you were only calling the Tonga's drinks slop. i was agreeing with you that SC and FI are decent (as i recall), and worthy of trying again. i just might not be much of a tiki drink person.
