jwz mixtape 146

Please enjoy jwz mixtape 146.

Looks like Youtube, in the interest of getting better every day, has removed the ability to edit start/end times in playlists at all -- before it was just stupidly difficult and flaky, but now even the option is gone -- so some of these have useless cruft padding them. Hooray.

Damn. Does Google have a whole team of people working solely on hurting usability and specifically pissing you off? I mean, their product management process is completely opaque, so that seems just as plausible as anything else. (What Google does well, they do very well. What they do poorly, they do very poorly and seemingly worse with each release.)

Is there a way for youtubedown to honor start/end times?

The info is there, in the playlist XML, but it doesn't use it. You'd need to transcode.

Ah. I used to automatically pass the start/end times to iTunes on import; but OSX 10.6.7--10.9.2 ignores the end time for videos.

I guess I should keep doing this; now that the bug is reportedly fixed, in a few years I will have upgraded past 10.9.3 and my transcode problem will magically go away.

"Can we fix this bug with start and stop times and playlists?"
    "Does anyone use it?"
    "0.01% of users."
"Let me see if the product owner will let usdelete that feature."
"All right, on to improved advertising insitials."

I know I'm going to like 3Jane just from the name.
