I have now learned that Main Street was named after Charles Main.
I'd just like to know why the state streets are in the order they are. It's not alphabetical or order of admission to the union.
That would explain why, in the words of Herb Caen, Main Street isn't.
Sweet.
Best name I've found so far: Cadwalader Ringgold
Best conflict-of-interest in street-naming: Gough and Octavia
They seem to be missing all the SOMA alleys named for prostitutes. http://exploresanfrancisco.tumblr.com/post/33062512994/minna
I noticed that, and was wondering!
The really weird thing about those streets is that they also appear in Brooklyn http://www.flickr.com/photos/jef/2932872768/
