A doomed effort, I know. My fucking phone is now bugging me to log in when I use apps to navigate my town. (Android fans, insert snark here. Then wait for it.)

    • I'd love to snark, but they have their tentacles everywhere; plenty of Android phones ship with it as an un-removable pre-installed app. Christ only knows what it can grab hold of.

      • With my last phone, I really lost it. I bought a new phone last November, and only a month ago could I put a fully usable AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM on it, so I could get rid of all that bloatware. My 1.2ghz dual core 768MB ram phone finally feels peppy.

From here on out, it's either a Google phone (out of the box unlocked AOSP) or something with a stable third party rom already out. I'm not putting up with that shit again.

And yeah, CyanogenMod 9.1 isn't as stable as the original OS, but it boots so much faster (and with the original OS I needed to reboot my phone every few days anyways) , I spend less time rebooting now. And it is just nicer.

Y'know, maybe this really doesn't affect pseudonymous accounts. Maybe it just lets them create an additional list of "verified" names they can sell to marketers at a higher rate and try to salvage some of that stock price.

If so, we really need a word for these instances of capitalism 'seeming' creepy when it's 'just' douchey.
