I've been trying to find a word for the act of publishing a creative work with anti-caveats. eg "No stencils, hand-drawn." Or Pixar movies, which brag "no motion capture." Or other movies that say "No CGI, all practical effects." "No DAW, all analog synths." Often, I don't think the phrases make me more impressed. Ok so you didn't use a stencil... should I think you're lamer than the guy who didn't use a ruler? What about the girl who didn't use a sharpie, but instead used a creme-brulee torch to burn the door with the desired pattern?
There's a guy named Boey, who does freehand sharpie drawings on styrofoam cups, and it's artwork. Wrote a web-comic, turned it into a book and is now doing a book tour in Malaysia where he's semi-famous.
Sharpie, sends him boxes of Sharpie's. http://iamboey.com/7474
(Not spam, when he's "home", he lives in Oakland.)
As part of a not-required-but-it-ought-to-be test protocol, we will now inform this dude that he is awesome.
Thank you for helping us help you help us all.
That is a seriously nicely done job of it.
