Kinda reminds me of the swarm screensaver but the bees have been replaced by a variety of glyphs. Mesmerizing. The best screensavers (and art in general) are those that mimic nature. But, on what planet is this natural ? Very cool - thanks jwz for the heads up.

It skirts the edge of comprehension. Truly, when the Alien Mind Virus from Outer Space comes through SETI@Home, it will take this form.

...either this or the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

with most screen savers, the mechanics of it become apparent after a while. you watch long enough, and the underlying structure, rules, and patterns used become apparent. You notice the tricks used to save effort and to create complexity from a few simple rules.

With this one, the main conclusion to be drawn is "HOLY FUCK SOME NUTJOB SPENT AND OBSCENE AMOUNT OF TIME HAND ANIMATING A MILLION LITTLE REPEATING ELEMENTS!!! WHO WOULD DO SUCH A THING?!?!?!"

I find it weird that you use iOS but none of your videos ever play on iOS devices.

All of the Youtube and Vimeo embeds I post work on IOS, because they're using the new magical iframe embed method. This one, though, only existed as a Flash plugin on the author's site, not a video.

  5. (Trying again to post link).

Oh, that was fun. Apparently that .SWF file was trying to "phone home" or something, but it was doing it wrong by pinging its referer, so anyone who viewed it began making a zillion repeating requests to the page that embedded it. So posting that on my blog turned everyone who viewed it into a DDoS against my own server.

One lesson you can take from this is, "Don't hotlink".

    Another is, "Fuck Flash".

A third is, "What the hell, dude, why didn't you just post that to Youtube like a normal person?"

Is Sir familiar with the work of Cyriak?

As Charlie Stross puts it: I think it's the mind of the Web and it's trying to communicate with us...

A fourth is: don't steal other people's intellectual property.
