I'm not sure if something changed recently, but I track you via RSS in Google Reader and all of your images have started showing up as "Hotlinking, It's what's for dinner" - which I expect is your "Hey, don't embed my images" .htaccess rule. Did you tweak it recently? Could it been the Google Reader changes did something to slam into your rule now?
Google Reader borked something recently, but not all the time and not for everybody. So far, every person I've asked to tell me the precise URL that is being sent as the referrer on a page where the hotlinking image is showing up has failed to do so. Maybe you will be the exception?
Of course, I tried to capture the failure and the images loaded. This is a success:
GET /images/towerelevation.jpg HTTP/1.1
Host: http://www.jwz.org
Connection: keep-alive
Cache-Control: no-cache
Pragma: no-cache
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/535.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/16.0.912.32 Safari/535.7
Accept: */*
Referer: http://www.google.com/reader/view/
Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch
Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.8
Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3
Figures as soon as I fire up Wireshark it would work. I'll keep watching for it to happen again and try to grab a new capture.
The teeth one is pretty awesome. You know, if I ever expected to sell the house I'm building, I would hire this guy to put crazy shit like that hidden behind the drywall. How awesome would it be for someone to be tearing down a wall in 20 years and find that all the studs in that wall appear to be made from metal casts of human bones?
