Visually looks a lot like something you might see from the demoscene, like this demo from 2009: ASD - Rupture
That is not surprising, since it is from demoscene group Quite and is a successor to their 4 kilobyte production, cdak.
Looks like it's probably based on something like the Mandelbox 3D fractal, which is itself pretty cool.
