Well, iTunes has fucked up music video playback again.

Now iTunes not only ignores "Sound Check" when playing videos, but now it also ignores the "Volume Adjustment" slider in "Get Info" on video tracks.

So you can no longer even normalize the volume manually.

I'm not sure when they broke this, but it was relatively recently.

This is just fantastic.

  1. Let this be a lesson to you, kids: never upgrade.

  2. Wow, usually when Apple remove functionality they have the decency to remove the menu options.

Observing the ways in which iTunes is a steaming turd has become just too tiresome. I pray that Apple's rumored interest in wireless syncing will mean decoupling the iPhone from needing to use that frankenstein application for everything.

Exactly. What are our options for iTunes alternatives these days?

It got so bad that I'm doing all my music with mpd now, mostly using nmpcpp for a frontend. The advantage is that I can easily control music from my ubiquitous terminal window, the disadvantage is, well, it's mpd. Works well enough for me, though. I only open itunes when I have to put stuff on my pod.
