Some friends and I were just gabbling about how Half Life 2 came out for Mac today, too. I shared this link to them with the obvious "Speaking of: oh shit, iRL Manhacks!" line before I read the comments.
Huh... I've been in that room (or an identical one on a different floor) when I got a lab tour several years ago. They were just doing wheeled robots with binocular cameras in there then, though. It seems they've... adapted. Definitely some cool research.
It's very cute, but it's hardly autonomous. Unless you're wearing markers and standing in a room full of high-end mocap hardware, you should be safe from Skynet for now.
Where are they going to put the buzzsaw?
The very thing that popped into my head.

So I take it next week you'll be posting a video of ones that burrow underground, and have buzz-saws?
"Be very afraid" is so much of an understatement...
Gets you right in the reptilian hind-brain, doesn't it.
Damn it, JWZ! What did I just tell you about showing me nightmare robots?
I can't out run them and I can't out fly them.
You got any footage of relentless swimming automatons?
Not long now to spy flies as seen in (at least) the 'Charlie Jade' series.

That's what they WANT you to think.
This is what I did last week:
Not quite as aggro, but my flying robot can melt concrete.
I am in awe. Love 2:38-48. Not sure about this "fine arts" stuff.
... corrected :D
