But I think they must be there somewhere, because they have just released a ridiculously unusable iPhone app that nevertheless appears capable of playing music by many of the bands on the schedule. So those MP3s exist somewhere. Where do I scrape them from?
Where are the SXSW 2010 MP3s?
SXSW is a month away, so it is time to start the interminable slog through the MP3s, but I can't find them. Where are they? There does not appear to be a 2010 torrent yet (last year it was "unofficial") and I can't find the MP3s on the web site.

Some of the event pages have a music player; for example:
http://my.sxsw.com/events/event/1515
which plays the song from:
http://audio.sxsw.com/2010/mp3/White_Ghost_Shivers-Everyone's_Got_'Em.mp3
So you can try to scrape, but I am not sure how much you'll find. Let us know!
I found another one: http://2010.sxsw.com/node/4163
This one - same server, same path:
http://audio.sxsw.com/2010/mp3/The_Deep_Dark_Woods-Charlie%27s_Is_Coming_Down.mp3
however: google search for site:audio.sxsw.com shows nothing. (I initially started with type:mp3 and inurl:2010, which finds even fewer items.
No http://audio.sxsw.com/robots.txt file.
I'm starting to think someone should write a webspider that just bruteforces filenames. Shame it'd also be an effective DoS tool. :(
Skreemr managed to spider one, only one: http://www.skreemr.com/advanced_results.jsp?advanced=true&song=&artist=&album=sxsw+2010+showcasing+artists&genre=&bitrate=0&length=00%3A00%3A00&button=SkreemR+Search:
http://audio.sxsw.com/2010/mp3/Maldita_Vecindad_y_Los_Hijos_del_Quinto_Patio-Pura_Diversion.mp3
Word on the street is that the torrent is being assembled as we speak.
Ah crap. I'm *just now* finishing my trawl through the 2009 set.
Why crap? Good timing.
SXSW is apparently streaming the tracks rather than posting the audio files where they're easy to find. They say it's "easier", and if you're not determined to hear every track, or one specific one -- in other words, if you're like the average SXSW-goer -- I have to say it is.
I have heard that there may exist tools out in the world that make it trivial for one to download a streaming audio webcast, so this may not be an insurmountable obstacle.
jwz has never been average.
So true.
So will our host be visiting the People's Republic of Austin for SXSW again this year?
There hasn't been an official torrent since 2007. But I got you covered again for 2010:

Excellent, thanks!
