Reason #44567 why the Georgia Aquarium is completely awesome and you should go if you're ever in the region.

Still the only aquarium I've ever been in with a petting zoo. A petting zoo!

It's not a full aquarium, but in the Seattle Science Center there's a small (maybe 10'x20'?) hands-on lagoon that has fish, anemones, shellfish, and other stuff like that, with an attendant in the middle to answer questions and make sure nobody runs off with crabs or anything.

The Monterey Bay Acquarium has a huge touching exhibit. Mostly tidepool life, which the kids love, and also sting rays (snipped for safety).

The Island Bay Marine Education centre lets you handle starfish, sea slugs, crabs, and other assorted biota. For that matter, the aquarium I visited in Noumea did, as well.

Wow. They've also got his Little Sister friend made-up and/or postprocessed appropriately to look like the weird "next gen" overemphasised lighting that's all the rage these days.
