When I flew into Japan a few weeks ago (before all this flu business, thankfully), they had a guy set up with an infrared camera in the arrival hall doing the same thing. I didn't get a chance to see the display but it must have been similar.
I'm sure they were looking for robots with rubber skin.
Yeah, China's Beijing airport had gates with fixed-mount IR cameras over them when I arrived for the WWW2008 conference, which was a few months before the olympics there.
So in the grim, dark future of Terminator, the East will probably do pretty well. Until all their humungous mecha defect, anyway.
in the philippines last november i was greeted at the airport with signs about SARS and a compulsory foot bath, but no actual foot bath. they did have thermal monitors in place, however.

"The East will be doing well"?
Yeah, Right!
Relative to "killed by Skynet", "unemployed" is doing well.
This is exactly what I thought when I saw this article. (Naturally)

Wait... a foot bath to protect against an airborne respiratory disease?
Qi is replenished by bathing the foot.
