Awesome. I think seeing The Cure was one of the first real large concerts I ever went to.

You mentioned you were using an FM2. How'd you get that past security? Or was that in the time before they gave a shit?

I'm pretty sure they didn't give a shit. I don't remember what camera this was, though.

This was also in the time before any kind of reasonable pre-sale ticketing: we got in line at 9pm the night before, and still ended up at the back of the balcony...

Damnit. I missed that tour due to a bad starter in my '81 Ford Fairmont.

I think my earliest concert photos are from a Lords of the New Church gig, back when I had a college press pass and could photograph whatever I liked. Maybe I should get off my ass and scan them.

  4. What is going on in picture 199?

If I could only see one concert in my entire life, it would be any nite of the Kiss tour.

Unfortunately I missed it all as I was an idiot. I didn't see them until 96 (never missed since, including flights across country).

If Only Tonight We Could Sleep... *sigh*

Was the Mosque any good for concerts? I had some decent experiences at the Civic Arena and one really bad one at the poorly-named I.C. Light Amphitheater. I remember Star Lake being OK.

  7. I caught that tour in Detroit. Wasn't expecting much, since I wasn't fond of their albums - and was extremely surprised by how good they were in concert. The odd thing is that I'm still not fond of their studio work at all, but I also go to see them every time they come through town. My most vivid memory from the show is "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep." Positively haunting.

Interesting timing: "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" has just been re-released as a "Deluxe Edition", although I don't see anything that makes me want to go and buy it (again that is, I have the original on 12"), can anyone else?

Also, since the Deftone's cover of "If Only...", it seems to be back in Vogue. They played The Kiss / If Only on their last UK date, and there's an extra on a recent Placebo DVD with Placebo and the Cure playing it.

Ah the white sneaker era. Those were the days.
