Total waste of time? You mean as opposed to the remake of Rollerball?
I've always been curious to see the van Sant version, but never quite got around to it. I did, however, suspect that the "shot-for-shot" remake of the shower scene would throw in gratuitous boobies; I am amused to learn that I was right.
At least the Rollerball remake was a different movie, not just some film-school senior-project lip-sync exercise. And, for that matter, while lousy, it was a better movie than the original. The original Rollerball really, really sucked.
FYI, your entry breaks the layout of my friends page (S1 Refried Paper). The comment links and following horizontal rule flow to the right of the picture, along with the next entry. I personally don't care, but a <br clear="left"> at the end would make the layout work for other Refried Paper users.
You've heard her DVD commentary track for Psycho, then? She uses her tongue to explore Gus van Sant's lower GI tract to a degree I never thought humanly possible... it's simply amazing.
I find it interesting that the majority of remake shots are mirror images of the original. What would happen on the right side of the first would happen on the left in the remake, down to the upheld hand, the shower faucet, the knife.
Also, Van Sant raised the camera so the actress is in the upper portion of the screen more, as people these days are now accustomed to seeing. I don't know if that was a subconscious thing or intention, but the original with the concentration in the lower thirds is a little bit more creepy.
That's some hot lesbo action in the shower, right there.
The original has notably better camerawork and acting. The remake is very much paint by the numbers 'okay, now raise your hands, now slide down the back wall, now lie down really still...'

His format breaks my layout when he uses images too, so I just put the site in my daily rotation instead of my friends list.
Isn't it ironic that "Call me crazy" Anne Heche is really a psycho?
Is it? I'm not sure.

Van Sant didn't mirror the shots; the guy who superimposed the two scenes reversed the Hitchcock version, presumably to make it easier to follow.
Here's stills from the original, for comparison:

Also, Janet Leigh is way hotter than Anne Heche.

Haven't you posted this or something just like it before?
I don't think I've seen a video overlay like this before. Maybe you're thinking of the Vertigo walkthrough?
