Hey, I no one else seems to have reported problems getting to dnalounge in that earlier post, but I'm getting a parked page for it.

    For starters:

    Record last updated on 16-Aug-2004.
    Record expires on 28-Apr-2012.
    Record created on 27-Apr-1995.

    Domain servers in listed order:
    NS.MEER.NET 140.174.164.2
    NS2.MEER.NET 216.206.136.2

    sting root # host http://www.dnalounge.com
    http://www.dnalounge.com has address 216.40.33.117

I got that address when trying it from two separate hosts on two totally separate networks... and when going directly to that address, I got the Domain Direct homepage, which sounds to me like they've parked it. The interesting thing is that when I do a "dig A http://www.dnalounge.com @ns.meer.net", I get 209.157.129.108 as the ip address. So then I did a dig +trace on it, and basically, domain direct is returning the correct NS records, but it's /also/ returning an A record for http://www.dnalounge.com. Here's a snippet:

    ;; Received 467 bytes from 192.228.79.201#53(B.ROOT-SERVERS.NET) in 39 ms

    dnalounge.com. 172800 IN NS ns1.domaindirect.com.
    dnalounge.com. 172800 IN NS ns2.domaindirect.com.
    dnalounge.com. 172800 IN NS ns3.domaindirect.com.
    ;; Received 150 bytes from 192.5.6.30#53(A.GTLD-SERVERS.NET) in 53 ms

    http://www.dnalounge.com. 600 IN A 216.40.33.117
    dnalounge.com. 600 IN NS ns.meer.net.
    dnalounge.com. 600 IN NS ns2.meer.net.
    ;; Received 126 bytes from 216.40.33.21#53(ns1.domaindirect.com) in 37 ms

Well, I can't tell if it's some trick on your part or simply a failing of my DSL provider's DNS and network, but all I'm getting is this when I go to visit your link. And somehow that seems terribly, terribly wrong.

So, which is it? Diabolical plot to turn jwz's posts into Google syndicated ad pages? Strange trick to detect leeenux based browsers and funnel them to the "doesn't get my rants page"? Or just general Net tomfoolery?

I did not attend because I don't read LJ often enough to make these sorts of notifications useful.

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because I had a massive ear infection where sound of any level was making me cry and I had to be prevented from putting a corkscrew through my ear.

    love, hep

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because while i wanted to attend, i had to perform.... on my knees

  6. evan says:

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because I don't have a good way of getting up there.

(BTW, dnalounge.com produces "This domain is currently Under Construction. Please check back soon." I'm on speakeasy DSL in Redwood City.)

  7. pygmalion says:

    I did not attend because

I woke up to being Kidnapped by the Shane and Crystal and Francis boy and Willow to BBQ and Lunch Money. By the time it rolled round for the Spectacular, Spectacular, no one was sober enough to drive.

  8. scosol says:

uhm- a page check confirms that from xo/chicago and btn/ashburn you're all good, but from the rest of the world you're fucked :)
    (i work for these guys)

  9. naturalborn says:

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because I currently live two states away. If I was in town I'd have attended.

  10. rosefox says:

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because I cannot express how much I needed a day off from going out and doing things. I'm thinking of doing my own version of Reservist training: instead of spending one weekend a month and two weeks a year out in the field, I'm going to spend one weekend a month and two weeks a year doing nothing at all, all by myself.

  11. confuseme says:

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because fuck fuck fuck.

  12. despite your strong advice, i made out with fauxbians--oh WAIT! that's not what you were asking, was it???

it was fantastic, so i forgive you your lack of jpgs ;p

  13. Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because I was in the Massachusetts Bay area.

  14. wire_on_fire says:

Despite your strong advice, I did not go because:
    1) I was not aware that you were giving strong advice about this particular event. I'm not sure if it would be good for business, but I'd really love to have a listing of which events and evenings are JWZ-hates-but-it-pays-the-bills and which events and evenings are JWZ-aproved. And since, JWZ, I do not actually *know* you, I can't drop by and ask without being instantly placed in the category of obnoxious JWZ fanboy. ;)
    2) I'm far too un-hip to go clubbing too frequently.
    3) I'm not of the right personality type to live in the trendy Soma area and therefore have to drive all of the way up, which places a mild deterrent on the whole thing.
    4) I tend to not code particularly well when I don't get enough sleep, so I tend to not want to go clubbing on workdays.

    • jwz says:

You may have noticed a complete lack of recommendations from me for most of our events. This should suggest that the few recommendations I do make are for real!

But, your points 2-4 say "but I wouldn't go anyway", so I guess that doesn't matter.

      • wire_on_fire says:

DNA Lounge is my favorite club, JWZ. For reasons *other* than your l337 h4x0r reputation, perish the thought. When I first moved out here, I went to CODE, when it was on Fridays, back in the day. If you ever want gnarled pieces of glowing art to jam in the corners, I'll work for beer.

*sigh* I guess the fundamental problem is that there aren't enough people with good taste in music, so that you are not able to put on a really bitchin' industrial show every Friday, like CODE was back when the club opened. When I clone myself millions of times to build an army to take over the world, I'll be sure to send them over to the DNA Lounge in droves. Can I hear a "I, for one, welcome our new cloned Wirehead overlords?" from you?

Oh yeah, and I forgot reason #5. You seem to be stalking me and plotting against me. The last several times you've talked up a show and it seemed really nice, something was happening that evening. Like when the Cruxshadows came to town, I was off on a business trip or some crap like that.

  15. otterley says:

    Two words: law school.

  16. Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because I show up during the day and you don't pay me to be there at night. Oh, wait a minute, you do pay me to be there at night...and I DID attend, completely off the clock!...well, I guess I'm a total loser.

But paying people to be there is an idea....although, since you pay every time the doors open to the public, you kind of ARE paying people to be there.
CHOP CHOP people. JWZ is paying so you can be there.

And you should have seen all the guys in their hawaiian print shirts and flower lei's....worth it just for that...the blue Hawaiians were flowing....

Because my car broke down at 8:30pm, leaving me with no reliable form of vehicular transportation. Not to mention that, as a rule, sailors in hotpants frighten me.

    • hafnir says:

Your car broke down yesterday, dear. :)

We didn't go 'cause Saturday was uberbusy with lots of alcohol, Sunday morning was too with less alcohol, and we passed out Sunday night.

That and I have no sense of humor. :)

  18. violentbloom says:

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because you have not agreed to let me sleep on your couch post-club experience.

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because I can't follow simple directions.

Well, that and I don't think the Bay Area extends beyond the orange curtain.

Despite your strong advice, I did not attend because I was in the Grand Traverse Bay area rather than the San Francisco Bay area.

I am correcting this unfortunate state of affairs effective September, and will follow your strong advice in the future.
