Batman, The Musical

"A suuuuuuuuperstitious and cowaardly lot..."

August 30, 2002 -- HOLY Broadway! "Batman: The Musical" has finally landed a director - Tim Burton. Warner Brothers, which is producing the multimillion-dollar musical, has been courting Burton, who directed the 1989 "Batman" movie as well as the 1992 sequel "Batman Returns," for over a year. [...]

Burton - who also directed "Planet of the Apes" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" - has never staged a musical before, though he's said to enjoy the theater and has mused to friends that he'd like to start a puppet theater one day.

According to one theater source, he wants to direct "Batman: The Musical" because he is not pleased with the goofy, campy turn the franchise took with "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin," both of which were directed by Joel Schumacher.

Burton will begin working on the musical full-time next year. The plan is to open out of town in 2004 and arrive on Broadway in 2005. [...]

Steinman, whose "Dance of the Vampires" opens this fall on Broadway, described his "Batman" score as a mixture of "Brecht, Weill, Rodgers & Hammerstein and rock 'n' roll."

The overall design concept, as of right now, he said, is "Gotham City as Berlin in the 1930s." [...]

Update: I think some clarification on the subject of this post might be in order: there was an ep of Batman Beyond where Terry takes Bruce to a Broadway performance of Batman The Musical. They do a truly painful "Supersitious and Cowardly Lot" song, and Bruce turns to Terry and says, "you really hate me, don't you?"

that's bullshit

How do I keep getting sucked into arguments about intellectual property? I don't care! I don't care what you think, and I don't care whether you agree with what I think! Why can I not stop picking at that scab? I really should just adopt kalischild's universal explanation: "that's bullshit." I know that I should do this, but I don't. This is a personal failing.

PS: I bite my nails, too.

News flash: Apple continue to be weasels

Apple: Burn DVDs--and we'll burn you

Company makes a patch to allow Apple's iDVD to interoperate with non-Apple-provided DVD drives. Apple invokes DMCA, claiming this "violates their intellectual property."

Presumably because they had to reverse engineer iDVD to make it work, which is now thoughtcrime. But really because Apple wants to use DVDs as the hook to sell new machines, so you'll buy a whole new machine instead of just a drive.

the Hello Kitty vibrator has competition

Harry Potter Vibrating Broomstick

Excellent! Reviewer: poola13 from Ohio

When my 12 year old daughter asked for this for her birthday, I kind of wondered if she was too old for it, but she seems to LOVE it. Her friends love it too! They play for hours in her bedroom with this great toy. They really seem to like the special effects it offers (the sound effects and vibrating). My oldest daughter (17) really likes it too! I reccomend this for all children.

Hi folks,

I am here at the police station waiting to see a judge... and I thought I would check to see if there is connectivity here. :)

THere is!

Wireless is awesome...

It's here at the Bryant St station... at the corner of 7th street and Bryant.
